The Morrow County Health Department is a General Health District governed by the Board of Health. Appointment to the board of health is made by the District Advisory Council of Morrow County which includes the Mayors of the villages.
This board is an Administrative Board who receives its powers and duties from the Ohio Revised Code as passed by the Ohio Legislature. By law, the Board of Health is the appointing authority for all matters related to the Morrow County Health Department. The Ohio Revise Code outlines some specific functions that the Board must carry out.
These functions generally deal with the Health, Welfare and Safety of the residents of the County. The Board, as authorized by the Ohio Revised Code, can establish various divisions to carry out these functions. The Board, with the recommendation of the Health Commissioner, also has the authority to hire personnel to handle the day-to-day operations of the Health Department.
The Board has several methods, as authorized by the Ohio Revised Code, available to it to generate funds to pay for the cost of operating the Health Department.
The Board of Health meets on the third Monday of each month at 6 pm. The meetings are held at the Health Department which is located at 619 W. Marion Road, Mt. Gilead, Ohio. Visitors are welcome at any meeting. However, if you wish to address the Board, please contact the Health Commissioner at (419)947-1545 x 308 for an appointment time no later than 72 hours prior to the meeting (per Board of Health policy).
The Board of Health is selected by the District Advisory Committee which is made up of a representative from each township and village. The term of a board member is 5 years. Each year at the annual meeting in March a member is appointed. By law, the Board of Health must have a physician as a member and at least one representative from a licensing program of the district.
