Immunization Changes

As of the start of the 2012-2013 school year, the following changes are in effect by order of the Ohio Department of Health:

1.               All students entering the 7th Grade must have an updated tetanus with pertussis booster (Tdap).  Since your child MUST have this immunization, you might want to consider having them vaccinated against bacterial meningitis and the human papilloma virus (series of three vaccines) at the same time.  These vaccines are offered to both boys and girls.

2.               Kindergarten students MUST have the following vaccines in order to enter school for the first time:

5 doses  -  Dtap

4 doses  -  Polio

3 doses  -  Hepatitis B

2 doses  -  MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)

2 doses  -  Varicella (chickenpox)  -  If the student has had this disease, then a letter stating (1) the student’s name; (2) date of the disease; and (3) signed by the parent or physician must be presented with the immunization record.

All immunizations are subject to approval by the school nurse who will check each record for the proper number and spacing between immunizations.  If records are not correct, students will have ten (10) days to obtain proper immunizations or risk exclusion until proof of completion is provided.
